Case Study:
56 year old male
CC: Unexplained GI symptoms.
SX: Pain after eating, bloating, constant feeling of fullness, painful gas, heartburn, reflux. Irregular bowel movements leaning toward constipation.
HX: PPI use since mid 30s. High stress lifestyle with long work hours and frequent travel.
Other Info:
- Patient was treated for SIBO 6 months ago with a full course of Rifaximin. Upon retesting, his SIBO had cleared up. His constipation is vastly improved but his other symptoms have not resolved.
- GI irregularity and makes travel and work life complicated and he is frustrated that his SIBO treatment did not clear up his symptoms entirely. His GI difficulties are affecting his quality of life and ability to work.
- Patient has irregular diet and sleep. He often eats convenience foods while traveling and eats late at night frequently.
