Case Study:

28 yo male

CC: Can’t eat anything without bloating. Chronic eczema. Frequent “blotchy face” and hives.

Symptoms: He is very uncomfortable in his body whenever he eats anything- he feels massively bloated and has been experiencing more frequent hives and eczema. He thinks the eczema may be coming from the cleaning products used on the mats and floors at his yoga studio, but the hives are unexplained. His diet is very restrictive and any time he strays from it (potlucks, parties, restaurants) he finds himself experiencing gas, bloating, diarrhea/ “quick evacuation” and more and more frequent hives on his inner arms, inner wrists, inner thighs, and backs of his knees. His diet is very restrictive and any time he strays from it (potlucks, parties, restaurants) he finds himself experiencing gas, bloating, diarrhea/ “quick evacuation” and more and more frequent hives on his inner arms, inner wrists, inner thighs, and backs of his knees.

History: He is vegan and has been on a highly restrictive diet that is gluten free, dairy free, soy and corn free, sugar free for the past 3 years. He practices intermittent fasting and starts every day with warm lemon water.

Other:

  • He is a yoga teacher and teaches 3-4 hot yoga classes daily.
  • He lives in a small apartment in a highly populated neighborhood of NYC. It is a mixed “industrial/ commercial/ gentrified shopping/restaurant” area. There is a dry cleaner and a high end artist’s paint store a few doors down from his apartment.
  • He lives on a highly trafficked road. He bikes around the city and uses public transport to get back and forth from the yoga studio.

  • He is very committed to his health and resolving his skin and digestive problems as they are affecting his life more and more. He is willing to try anything, feels he has high discipline and commitment.

  • He would prefer to operate on as low of a budget as possible as he is “stretched thin” already. If necessary he is willing to borrow money from family for testing/treatment.
