Case Study:
34 yo female
CC: PMS. She gets irritable 3-4 days before her cycle, has “dull, heavy” cramping/lower abdominal discomfort for the week before her period. She feels bloated and puffy the week before her cycle.
Sx:
- Her temperament is generally pretty even keeled but she finds herself “highly sensitive” and “easily triggered” in the week leading up to her cycle.
- She often explodes on her partner about pent up frustrations at this time.
- Most of her menstrual complaints occur the week before her cycle. In addition to cramping and bloating, she also experiences a heightened desire for intoxication (alcohol, pot, coffee, chocolate.)
Hx: She has a history of a short menstrual cycle since she can remember first tracking it in her late 20’s.
Other:
- She had a large ovarian cyst discovered in her first pregnancy.
- Before her pregnancy she used to have “severe, debilitating” cramps on the first day of her cycle.
- She did not get her period until 1 year after she delivered her daughter
- She has an untreated inguinal hernia in her R groin.
- She exercises 45 min-1.5 hours 6 days a week, varying her routine between weights, cardio, and HIIT.
